AS400 Green Screen POP3 SMTP email capability

A fully integrated AS400 green screen terminal POP3 SMTP email client capability is included in NetMail*400. This allows local and remote green screen terminal users to retrieve their email from a centrally located and administered POP3 server or from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) POP3 server.

Easier email access

The POP3 server can be on an NT, UNIX, LINUX, NetWare or AS400 platform located anywhere on the LAN or with an ISP. Users can retrieve their mail from LAN connected PCs, Web connected PCs (using web mail technology) or with green screen terminals. The user's LAN mailbox can be on Exchange, Notes, Netscape or any other LAN based system including the AS400 with a POP3 structure. Traveling green screen users can retrieve and send email while on the road using any PC based web mail system. Corporate users who normally use a POP3 client such as Outlook or Notes can now stay in email contact from green screen terminal devices located in remote sales offices, manufacturing plants, warehouses and other remote locations.

Single POP3 Server for Everyone

Administration is now easier with everyone's mailbox managed by a single POP3 post office structure. Green screen users need a simple user id and AS400 sign on structure to retrieve their email from the central POP3 server. This makes the administration of additions, deletions and changes a less daunting task.

Direct SMTP Integration

The green screen POP3 email client uses NetMail's SMTP component. This component eliminates any dependencies on the AS400 SNADS/SMTP or the Qtmmsendmail SMTP structure for both sending and receiving email. This greatly simplifies the configuration and management of the SMTP resources on the AS400 while providing a richer functionality to the AS400 than is achievable with the SNADS/SMTP structure. Complete MIME attachment encoding and decoding is also provided by the Direct SMTP component.

AS400 Economics

Using a POP3 post office approach for the green screen user provides the full capabilities of the NetMail system (such as attaching AS400 spool files and database files to messages) as well as the capabilities of PC based POP3 clients. Combined with the ability to enable AS400 application programs to generate, receive and process business transactions makes the AS400 based email system a very productive and attractive investment.
