NetMail*400 is certainly jam-packed
with capabilities, ranging from a simple e-mail message from one user to
another all the way to a sophisticated, AS400 application enabled system
that is generating messages, sending reports electronically, and providing
an e-commerce transport vehicle available everyone up and down your supply
chain. So, who is going to tame this beast? Will the interface be
intuitive and easy to use, in turn making your AS400 messaging system
effective, efficient, and productive?
As soon as you begin the NetMail guide, you will see that the Net400
developers produced a messaging system that offers a clean, no-nonsense
approach to task completion. Each of the procedures in the guide features
a series of steps that carefully lead you to successful completion each
task. As you work through the installation guide and near completion, you
will recognize that Net400 has maintained a consistent learning approach
for all the features and functions NetMail.
This same logical approach to ease-of-use was used to design the
user interfaces available. Often, you can select from several
implementation methodologies that are geared to the proficiency level of
the user. For example, there are three choices for a mail editor. They are
designed to be simple to use and simple in their functionality. This
results in minimal training and support costs associated with using NetMail, and also guarantees
NetMail compatibility with almost any
other mail system on LAN's or other computer systems.
Several security features are provided with NetMail. In addition
to normal AS400 native security (User Profile and Password security),
every NetMail user must supply a password when attempting to read
mail or change personal options. Alternatively, changing that option in
the user’s account may eliminate the secondary password required to
enter a mailbox. The only other person who can change a user's password is
the mail system administrator. In addition, Directory Entries and
Distribution Lists can be marked as private and will not be shared with
other users. Encryption is not used to store mail on the AS400 disk.
Files are created with normal public rights. If additional security is
desired, the System Administrator can remove public access to NetMail
database files.
